How to Cook Tin Hat
The ISOs are built from running Tin Hat systems that are kept up to date with our upstream distribution, i.e. Gentoo. Two architectures are maintained, i686 and amd64. All efforts have been made to keep the two as close as possible in terms of functionality, but minor differences do exist.
In brief, a new release of Tin Hat is produced by booting the previous release, reintroducing the portage and kernel trees, update the system, and then saving the new system back to ISO. Reintorducing the trees and saving the system are discussed in the Quickstart. Below we just discuss updating a running Tin Hat system. Once the installed packages and kernel are updated, you can proceed to save the running system to ISO for the next release.
